Location Guide - Pelican Point
Recommended for expert kiters only. Beginners should be accompained by an experienced instructor. Prevailing winds are onshore and care must be taken at all times.
Local Guidelines
Adhere to the information on the waksa sign.
* do not leave kites or lines on the grassed area or beach any longer than necessary.
* do not kite in the launching and landing area.
* do not launch or land from the wall under any circumstances.
The fenced area is a calm nature reserve and a restricted area. The reserve should never be used to launch, land or rig up. Please avoid this area at all times.
Obey directions from the rangers and calm officers at all times.
There is a submerged water hazard on the shoreline at the very end of th point (which is actually out of bounds, so you shouldn’t kite there). It’s a rusted steel drum with spikes sticking up - deadly to kite and human.
Water Condition
Very shallow water in certain areas. Subject to wind chop in over 20 knots.
Beach Condition
Very little beach, trees and walls are a hazard.
Kiters need to walk into the water for launching.
Grass area for rigging.
Directions
Approx 8kms West of the CBD in the suburb of Crawley.
Head out of the city on Mounts Bay Rd, turn left into Hackett Drive. Look out for the Royal Perth Yacht club on the left hand side; Pelican Point is about 500m further on.
