FAQs about WAKSA Charity Downwinder for REDKITE - Supporting children through cancer

No doubt by now, everyone should have some information about the WAKSA Charity Downwinder scheduled for Sunday 6th December 2009. We have a number of very keen participants who have collectively raised over $1600 for Redkite already – and we have four weeks to go!!

A number of kiters have been asking some questions about the event, so in order to clarify the situation for everyone we have put together some answers for a few frequently asked questions.

Why are we doing this?

It’s a fundraising event, to raise funds for Redkite – a charity that helps children and young people with cancer.

Which downwinder do I do?

For the more experienced, there is a 14 kilometre downwinder from Leighton to Brighton. Alternatively, if you don’t think you’re up to that distance, there is a shorter, 4 kilometre downwinder from City Beach to Brighton. Through the lads at ‘THE DOWNWINDER’ bus service, we have got buses organised to take participants to Leighton and City Beach.

I’ve read that I can win prizes?

Yes you can. So far we have several hundred dollars worth of prizes from a range of event sponsors, including Mills Records; SOS Surf; Star Surf; Surf Sail Australia; Airborne Kiting and AKS (we will release more specific details of the actual prizes in coming weeks.) In order to go in the running for the prizes, you need to have raised some funds for Redkite. You can do that by registering at the event website www.everydayhero.com.au/event/waksadownwinder09 and begin raising funds through that process.

What if I just want to do the downwinder?

Roll up at Brighton Beach and register on the day. If you haven't pre-registered on the event website & are raising $$ for Redkite, WAKSA members will be required to make a $20 contribution to do the event. This money will be donated directly to Redkite.
