Leighton Kiters
Leighton Kiters is a group of regular and local kiters working to keep Leighton Beach open as a kite surfing beach. Since our inception back in April, Leighton Kiters has grown to include almost 30 kiters.
The group put a submission to the Fremantle Surf Lifesaving Club seeking the clubs' support for an extended launch/landing area at Leighton as well as appropriate signage showing all beach users where this area is on the beach. Fremantle SLSC has recently advised that the club supports our efforts and goals.
The next stage of our campaign is to lobby the City of Fremantle to get their support and recognition of the exended launch/landing area, and to get the council to install appropriate signage.
The extended launch/landing area we are talking about would run south along the beach from the dog exercise area, down to a line on the beach opposite the Dingo Flour Mill on Stirling Highway. It's a significant extension to the small area that has historically been understood to be the launch/landing area.
Our proposal to the City of Fremantle is just about ready for submission. Any kiters who are Leighton locals or regulars not already on our mailing list and are interested in making suggestions, can contact us via leighton_kiters@hotmail.com
Leighton Kiters isn't just about writing to council. We are also hoping to have some social events over the course of the season for all Leighton Kiters.
